asked the President of the Board of Education how many council, Roman Catholic, and Church of England school buildings, respectively, approved by his Department, are at present in course of construction, and the accommodation these buildings will afford in each category when completed?

The numbers of school buildings for which plans have been approved by the Board but which are not yet completed are as follow:

217 Council schools, providing 121,800 places.
22 Roman Catholic schools, providing 7,100 places.
2 Church of England schools, providing 350 places.

asked the President of the Board of Education how many notices under Section 18 of the Education Act, 1921, of intention to provide council, Roman Catholic, and Church of England school buildings, respectively, are at present current, and the accommodation the buildings in each category, if erected, will provide?

Notices are now current in respect of the following proposals for new schools or enlargements:

122 Council schools, providing 54,600 places.
5 Roman Catholic schools, providing 960 places.
3 Church of England schools, providing 280 places.
