37. Captain CAZALET

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department how many British Consular appointments have been made within the area of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics?

Mr. GILLETT

As my hon. Friend informed the House on the 22nd May, there is a Consul at Leningrad and a Vice-Consul at Moscow.

Captain CAZALET

Is the hon. Gentleman going to appoint any Consular officers in that area in the near future?

Mr. GILLETT

Nothing has been decided.

Mr. MILLS

Will the hon. Gentleman bear in mind the urgent need for Consular representatives in all parts of the Soviet republic?

Mr. GILLETT

I am perfectly well aware of the situation.
