29. Mr. MARJORIBANKS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any representations have been made by His Majesty's Government to the Soviet Government with regard to the abortive arbitration proceedings initiated between Lena Goldfields, Limited, and the Soviet Government in April of this year?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

I understand that the arbitration proceedings referred to by the hon. Member are still in progress at Berlin, the Court of Arbitration having declared its competence to proceed in the absence of the Soviet arbitrator. In these circumstances, the question of representations, if any, to be made to the Soviet Government will only arise after the Court has delivered its judgment.

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this British enterprise was terminated by the action of the Soviet police, and is he also aware that the Soviet Government submitted to—
