HC Deb 16 April 1930 vol 237 cc2892-3
38. Mr. MANSFIELD

asked the Minister of Transport if his attention has been drawn to the dangerous road known as Kilton Valley, in the North Riding of Yorks; and will he consider holding an inquiry into this matter, with a view to assisting the North Riding County Council and the local authorities concerned to prepare an agreed suitable scheme for improving this road?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

I am informed that the North Riding County Council have in mind certain alternative schemes for the improvement of the condition of the road through the Kilton Valley, but no definite proposal has yet been submitted to me. I am prepared to give consideration to any definite application which may be forthcoming, but am of opinion that no useful purpose would be served by holding an inquiry in the meantime.

Mr. MANSFIELD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this dangerous road is causing a great deal of anxiety to motorists and to the thousands of workmen who have to pass to and from their work every day; and will he use his influence with the North Riding County Council and the other local authorities concerned to try to get this deadlock removed and see if it is not possible to have an agreed scheme?

Mr. MORRISON

The hon. Member may be sure that I shall be as helpful as I can, but the highway authority is the county council.
