asked the First Commissioner of Works whether any decision has yet been arrived at to erect new Government offices on the site of Montagu House and reaching from Whitehall to the Embankment?

It has been decided to erect new Government offices on the site of Whitehall Gardens and Montagu House, and a Bill to give effect to this decision will be introduced in the Autumn Session.

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any idea of what the cost of these buildings will be?

Mr. LANSBURY

No, but perhaps the right hon. Gentleman will await details.

Will any alternative gardens be provided in place of those which will be built over?

Mr. LANSBURY

I would like the hon. and gallant Gentleman to wait and see the Bill.
