HC Deb 06 May 1929 vol 227 c1933
8. Mr. W. BENNETT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will inform the House concerning any action that has been taken so far to implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into agriculture in India?

Earl WINTERTON

My Noble Friend asked the Government of India last July to furnish him with annual reports on progress made in giving effect to the Commission's recommendations. Until the first of these reports is received, he will not be in a position to furnish up-to-date information except in regard to matters of special importance. An important matter in which progress has been made is that provision for the Council of Agricultural Research recommended by the Commission has been made by the Legislative Assembly and the Government of India are working out a detailed scheme for bringing the Council into existence at an early date.
