HC Deb 06 May 1929 vol 227 cc1932-3
4. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if, in view of the fact that his Department has received a memorandum from the British Chamber of Shipping regarding the Indian Coastal Reservation Bill at present before the Indian legislature, he is prepared to invite the comments of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain on this memorandum, in order that the Department may have both Indian and British points of view before it when considering the matter?

Earl WINTERTON

My Noble Friend has received a representation from the British Chamber of Shipping as is indicated in the question. He will be glad to receive at any time for transmission to the Government of India a statement of the views of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain. He cannot, however, undertake to supply either Chamber with a copy of any communication from the other. The Indian Chamber asked my Noble Friend some time ago for a copy of the document submitted by the British Chamber and was informed in reply that its request should be addressed to the Secretary of the latter Chamber.
