HC Deb 21 February 1929 vol 225 c1300
53. Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether it is proposed to present any further Supplementary Estimates: and, if so, for what services?

Mr. SAMUEL

Yes, Sir. I am not in a position to make a complete statement, but Supplementary Estimates will be necessary for further grants to the Lord Mayor's Fund and for relief in distressed mining areas in Scotland. There will also be supplementary payments in respect of transferred civil servants in the Irish Free State required in pursuance of the agreement announced yesterday by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs. There may also be other matters which may require Supplementary Estimates this year.

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

Can the hon. Gentleman tell us whether we shall have a Supplementary Estimate in connection with what are known as the Irish loyalists?

Mr. SAMUEL

I cannot say.
