HC Deb 18 February 1929 vol 225 c777
45. Sir R. THOMAS

asked the Prime Minister whether the Committee of Imperial Defence have made any recommendations as to the effect on national security of the construction of a Channel tunnel; and whether they have modified the opinion expressed in 1924 on this point?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

I think the hon. Member must be aware that the last inquiry of the Committee of Imperial Defence into this question took place in 1924. This being so, I would refer him to the answer which I gave him on the 11th February.

Sir R. THOMAS

Does the right hon. Gentleman say that no recommendations or opinions have been expressed since that date—1924?

The PRIME MINISTER

Not that I am aware of.

Commander OLIVER LOCKERLAMPSON

When shall we have an opportunity of discussing this matter?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think, possibly, early in the next Parliament.
