HC Deb 30 April 1929 vol 227 cc1372-3
22. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has yet received any proposals from the London and North Eastern Railway Company for the utilisation of their share of the capital value representing the gain in income by the repeal of the Railway Passenger Duty; whether these include any proposals for bringing the East Riding of Yorkshire and the County of Lincolnshire into direct railway communication either by a bridge over or a tunnel under the estuary of the Humber; and whether he will now give favourable consideration to this public work, in view of the fact that it was postponed previously owing to lack of funds?

Colonel ASHLEY

The answer to the first part of this question is in the negative. With regard to the second part, I can only refer the hon. Member to the answers I have given to previous questions on this subject.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

In regard to the second part of the question, which I do not think has been answered, will the right hon. and gallant Gentleman be prepared to receive a deputation from the very important interests concerned in this great work?

Sir G. HAMILTON

Is the right hon. and gallant Gentleman not aware that the communications on the London and North Eastern Railway between London and Ilford require much more of his attention than anything to do with Hull?

Colonel ASHLEY

I am always ready to receive a deputation, and, if the hon. and gallant Member for Central Hull (Lieut.-Commander Kenworthy) will bring a deputation, I will receive it.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

I thank the right hon. and gallant Gentleman.
