§ 23. Sir HARRY BRITTAINasked the Minister of Transport what is the present position of progress of the Western Avenue; and whether he can make any statement as to the probable date of completion of this road?
§ Colonel ASHLEYThe total length of the projected road is 13 miles of which 4¼ miles are already completed. Two railway bridges now under construction by the Middlesex County Council will, I hope, be finished in five or six weeks' time enabling a further length of 1½ miles of road to be opened to traffic. With regard to the remainder of the route, as soon as revised estimates have been fully examined I hope to arrange 1374 with the Middlesex County Council for further work to be put in hand. At the present juncture, however, I cannot forecast a date for the completion of the entire route.
§ Colonel HOWARD-BURYWill the right hon. and gallant Gentleman consider changing the name of Western Avenue which is very misleading, seeing that we have already the great West Road?
