HC Deb 29 November 1928 vol 223 cc587-8
44. Viscount SANDON

asked the Minister of Health what is the gross amount and the average amount per local authority which will be gained to them annually under the head of maternity and child welfare services by the operation of the block grant as opposed to the percentage grant?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The gain in grant of counties and county boroughs under the scheme will be general and no specific part can be said to arise under the head of the Maternity and Child Welfare Service. As regards Maternity and Child Welfare Authorities other than counties and county boroughs the addition to the General Exchequer Grant of the authorities for the purpose of the Maternity and Child Welfare Services will be determined by a scheme to be made by the Minister according to the services to be carried out and the circumstances of the areas.
