HC Deb 26 March 1928 vol 215 cc799-800
24. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, following his suggestion to the Czechoslovak Government with a view to the abolition of visas, any satisfactory conclusion has been reached; and whether any further negotiations are taking place with this country and additional foreign Governments in this regard?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Godfrey Locker-Lampson)

Negotiations with the Czechoslovak Government are still proceeding. The reply to the second part of the question is in the negative.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Is it not time to make a really great effort to finish with these visas, which are, purely War-time measures?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I do not think that we can be accused of lethargy in this respect. We have just made an agreement with Germany, and we are always prepared to negotiate with any country on the matter

Sir H. BRITTAIN

As there are still eight or 10 left in Europe, cannot we give a lead in the negotiations?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I have already said that we have just concluded an agreement with Germany.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

That is all to the good.
