HC Deb 03 December 1928 vol 223 cc837-8
29. Mr. MACKINDER (for Mr. W. THORNE)

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that approximately 10,000 carcases of imported mutton have been seized and condemned on account of caseous lymphadenitis in an aggravated form; that each of the diseased carcases had individually attached to it a label signed by a veterinary inspector in the country of origin stating that the meat had been examined at the time of slaughter and found healthy and fit for export; that the character of this disease should show in the majority of these sheep nodules and growths on the offal and viscera of the animal that should have warned the inspector; and whether he will take steps to prevent the import of diseased meat into this country?

Sir K. WOOD

My right hon. Friend is in communication with the Governments of the countries concerned in regard to the matter.
