24. Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Postmaster-General whether during the period of the General Election it is proposed to permit the broadcasting of any political speeches; and, if so, under what conditions and restrictions?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Viscount Wolmer)

I cannot yet say what political speeches, if any, will he broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation during the General Election nor can I say upon what conditions such broadcasts may take place. I understand that the British Broadcasting Corporation have the matter under consideration.

Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

Can the Assistant Postmaster-General say on what particular issue the conference which was held recently broke down?

Viscount WOLMER

That was not concerned with the General Election.

Lieut.- Commander KENWORTHY

May I ask whether the Postmaster-General is taking any active interest in this matter, or is it being allowed to drift on between the political offices concerned?

Viscount WOLMER

This is a matter in the discretion of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
