HC Deb 23 May 1927 vol 206 c1653
63. Mr. STEPHEN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount spent on armaments in this country and France, respectively, in 1926–27?

Mr. McNEILL

Excluding loan charges and non-effective services, the estimated expenditure on Navy, Army and Air Services in 1926–27 was about £99,500,000. I believe the expenditure of France on these items in 1926 was about 6,950 million francs; but I do not know how far these figures are strictly comparable.
