HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 cc1646-7
80. Colonel DAY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will introduce legislation to make it compulsory for every individual or company to put a 2d. stamp on any voucher which is in the nature of an acknowledgment or receipt of payment for an amount of two pounds or over?

Mr. McNEILL

I can add nothing to the reply which I gave the hon. Member on the 11th November last on a question relating to the Receipt Stamp Duty.

Colonel DAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman tell me whether the Government have any powers, and, if so, whether they will enforce them, in order to make people put a stamp on a voucher just in the same way as a small trades man is bound to do?

Mr. McNEILL

The hon. Member will find all the necessary information set out in the answer to which I have referred him.

Colonel DAY

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that many thousands of these vouchers are going out without having any stamp on them?

Mr. McNEILL

I am quite well aware of the hon. Member's views on the subject.
