HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 c1646
78. Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that there is still a 10-mile limit at Hyde Park Corner in spite of the roundabout system; and how many cars daily exceed this 10-mile limit for speed?

Captain HACKING

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second in the negative.

Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that there are practically no cars which travel less than 10 miles an hour at the present time?

Captain HACKING

That may be. The question of speed limit rests with the Minister of Transport.

Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that only the other day the Minister of Transport said that it rested with the Home Office?

Captain HACKING

If anybody exceeds the speed limit, then the Home Office steps in. But the question of making a speed limit is a matter for the Minister of Transport.

Mr. CAMPBELL

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman say when he is going to remove all these restrictions from the speed limit?

Captain HACKING

That is a question which should be addressed to the Minister of Transport.

Mr. CAMPBELL

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman kindly pass it on?
