HC Deb 13 July 1927 vol 208 cc2137-8
42. Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that, owing to his refusal to sanction the appointment of unpaid probation officers, the Ottery St. Mary Bench has declined to make any appointment to this office; whether he has received a protest from the Devon County Council against his action in this matter; and whether be will state the nature of his reply to the county council and what action he proposes to take?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Captain Hacking)

The answer to the first Part of the question is in the negative. A letter has been received from the Devon County Council which is now under consideration, and I will let my hon. and gallant Friend know the result.
