HC Deb 13 July 1927 vol 208 c2138
43. Colonel DAY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give the Betting Duty yield for the month of June?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

The revenue derived from betting taxation during the month of June was £356,920.

Colonel DAY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether an examination of all the figures is taking place with the object of varying this duty later?

Mr. McNEILL

I could not say that; I do not know.

Mr. HURD

Could the right hon. Gentleman tell the House if the result is up to expectations?

Mr. McNEILL

As my right hon. Friend has explained, there was very little expectation—it was all experiment—but we are satisfied with the very substantial revenue derived from this duty.
