HC Deb 14 February 1927 vol 202 c544
30. Sir FREDRIC WISE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the amount the Cotton Tax has been reduced in Uganda?

Mr. AMERY

Under the sliding scale system recently introduced, the tax in 1927 will be at the rate of two cents per pound as compared with the former rate of six cents.

Sir F. WISE

May I ask how this will affect the Budget in Uganda?

Mr. AMERY

Of course, it means some loss of revenue, but that is a loss worth taking in view of the general interests of the Colony.

Sir F. WISE

Will the Budget show a deficit?

Mr. AMERY

No, Sir, I have no reason to think that it will.
