HC Deb 10 February 1927 vol 202 cc269-70
60. Mr. TOWNEND

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the P class of civil servants are liable to pay unemployment contributions although they never can receive benefit; whether he will consider the desirability of exempting them from this burden; and, if he has not the power, whether he will undertake to include this amend- ment in the earliest legislation remedying the various defects in the Unemployment Insurance Act?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir A. Steel-Maitland)

The liability to Unemployment, Insurance of persons employed by or under the Crown is governed by Section 40 (1) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920. In framing the Unemployment Insurance Bill which is to be introduced this Session I will give attention to the position of the "P" Class of civil servants in this connection.
