HC Deb 26 April 1927 vol 205 c657
30. Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total addition to the face value of the National Debt brought about by the various conversions that have taken place since 11th November, 1918?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The addition to the face value of the debt is about £318 millions, but, as I explained recently, the face value figures are misleading, and the annual interest charge on the debt has decreased in the last seven years by £47 millions per annum.
