HC Deb 07 April 1927 vol 204 c2265
56. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total amount of capital guaranteed by the State under the Trade Facilities Act to companies engaged in the artificial silk industry; and if he is satisfied that there is likely to be no loss to the State by reason of such guarantees?

Mr. McNEILL

The answer to the first part of the question is £85,000, and to the second part, that I have no reason at all to anticipate any loss.

Mr. THURTLE

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that there is a very heavy slump in this industry at present as far as new flotations are concerned?

Mr. McNEILL

I have no reason to anticipate loss on these particular loans.
