§ 101. Colonel DAYasked the Minister of Transport if he has now received a lie-port with reference to the subsidence which occurred on 8th March between Chigwell and Woodford, which was the cause of a great part of the Hainault Road bridge carrying the main road falling down; and if, in view of the danger to the residents of this neighbourhood, he will make representations to the London and North Eastern Railway Company and the authorities concerned that a new bridge be erected?
§ Colonel ASHLEYThe railway company have informed me that the collapse of this bridge occurred as the result of a slip in the adjacent cutting. The damage to the bridge affected only a relatively small part of the whole structure, and the portion affected is now in course of being replaced. I see no reason to suppose that the residents in the neighbourhood are in any way endangered, or that there is any necessity to construct a new bridge.
§ Colonel DAYIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the water has been cut off from the houses through this fall, and can ho say whether it has been connected again?
§ Colonel ASHLEYAs the portion affected is now in course of being replaced, I take it that the water main is too.
