HC Deb 04 April 1927 vol 204 cc1677-8
41. Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to the action of certain county councils in tar-spraying steep and dangerous hills without giving sufficient track on the sides for horse-drawn vehicles; whether he is aware that as a result farmers are deprived of the use of these roads, since on them their horses slip and break their legs; and whether he can make representations to the county councils concerned?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

I have been asked to reply. Very few complaints of this sort have reached me. It is my desire that adequate provision should be made for every form of traffic, and if my hon. Friend will give me particulars of any specific cases in which he considers this is not being done, I will have inquiries made.

Colonel DAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman also consider giving instructions to have only one side of the road tar-sprayed at a time, so that all traffic will be catered for?

Colonel ASHLEY

That does not arise out of this question.
