HC Deb 09 November 1926 vol 199 c867
37. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has received any protests with reference to the proposed advertising scheme by postmarks: and whether he has taken legal advice as to the right of the Government in so utilising mail in transit?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

The answer to both parts of the question is in the affirmative.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

May I ask what the right hon. Gentleman is going to do about it?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

As I told the House I should, I have been inquiring into the probable revenue to be derived from schemes of this kind. My inquiries have shown that the revenue to be derived in present circumstances is quite small, and it is therefore not proposed to put the scheme into operation at present.
