asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of motor vehicles in the service of Government Departments, showing the number allotted to each Department and giving particulars in each case of the number manufactured in Great Britain and those of foreign origin?

This information has taken some little time to collect, but I will circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT. to-day.

Following is the information desired:

MOTOR VEHICLES (including MOTOR CYCLES) in the SERVICE of GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS.

Admiralty 437 389 48 The foreign cars are mainly Fords on tractors.
War Office 3,183 2,926 257 The foreign built vehicles are made up as follows:—
237 are moribund war stock which are being replaced by British types as they become unserviceable.
19 are of a special type purchased for experimental purposes which could not originally be obtained from British sources but are now being so ordered.
1 is a 1915 type vehicle.
Air Ministry (including Civil Aviation.) 2,907 2,594 305 8 The foreign built vehicles are made up as follows:—
283 Fords.
2 of a special type which will be replaced by British vehicles.
20 old war stock vehicles the majority of which will be replaced by British vehicles.
The 8 doubtful vehicles are Fords most of which are believed to be British built.
General Post Office 2,374 2,374
Ministry of Labour 57 50 7 The foreign vehicles are of various types and date from 1908 to 1917.
Stationery Office 28 28
Office of Works 22 8 1 13 The foreign vehicle was manufactured in Canada.
Of the doubtful vehicles—
1 is probably foreign.
8 are probably British.
3 were purchased from the Disposals Board.
