§ 90. Mr. STEPHENasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if, in view of the long delay in publishing the results of the Southborough examination, he will arrange that the appointments be antedated to the 1st January, 1926?
§ Mr. McNEILLThere has been, and will be, no avoidable delay in issuing the results of the examination. I am afraid that I can see no ground for departing from the established rule of the Civil Service that appointments will take effect from a date not earlier than the date of the Civil Service Certificate in each individual case.
§ Mr. STEPHENIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that these people were promised the results of the examination in December, and they have not had them so far? Does this not mean so much loss to these people?
§ Mr. McNEILLI do not think the hon. Gentleman is right in saying that they were promised in December. I myself remember saying that the results would be made known early in the present year. There has been a disappointing delay, I admit, but it has been unavoidable.
