HC Deb 25 November 1925 vol 188 c1353
31. Mr. SHORT

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can state the number of young persons over 16 years of age unemployed in Wednesbury, Tipton and Darlaston respectively, and what proportion have been in employment at any time?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

At 9th November the numbers of young persons between the ages of 14 and 18 on the registers of Employment Exchanges were 40 at Wednesbury, 51 at Tipton, and six at Darlaston. I am unable to state how many of these were between the ages of 16 and 18, nor could I say without special enquiry how many of these have been in employment at any time.

Mr. SHORT

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiry, and supply me with the information?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I will not give that undertaking, because it means so much detailed inquiry, and at such a cost. It has been made in sample cases in other places. I would gladly do it, if the value would be proportionate to the amount of labour.

Mr. SHORT

Will the right hon. Gentleman send me the information in his possession?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Yes.
