HC Deb 31 March 1925 vol 182 c1119
100. Mr. POTTS

asked the Minister of Health whether legislation is contemplated enabling a corporation to exercise any of the functions now vested in boards of guardians under existing general law?

Sir K. WOOD

The question of Poor Law reform is being closely considered, but my right hon Friend is afraid that he cannot at present anticipate the proposals which he hopes in due course to submit in this connection.

Mr. POTTS

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the Bradford Corporation is seeking by that Bill to acquire certain powers, now vested in boards of guardians, and when that Bill comes before this House, will he undertake not to allow it to go through except by a general law affecting the whole country?

Sir K. WOOD

I am afraid I cannot anticipate my right hon. Friend's statement on that occasion.

Captain BENN

Can the hon. Gentleman say when the statement as to Poor Law reform will be made?

Sir K. WOOD

No; that is not a question that should be addressed to me.
