HC Deb 31 March 1925 vol 182 cc1118-9
99. Brigadier-General WARNER

asked the Minister of Health whether it is intended to give financial assistance to rural district councils to assist them in carrying out the Public Health (Meat) Regulations, 1924, with regard to the inspection of slaughtering animals and carcases in localities where no public abattoirs exist?

Sir K. WOOD

My right hon. Friend regrets that he is unable to give any special financial assistance to rural district councils towards the expenses of enforcing the Public Health (Meat) Regulations. I may, however, remind my hon. and gallant Friend that one half of the approved salaries of the medical officer of health and sanitary inspector, who will usually be the principal officers responsible for the administration of the regulations, is repayable by the county council out of the Exchequer Contribution Account.

Mr. MACKINDER

Is the hon. Gentleman satisfied that this inspection is carried on properly?

Sir K. WOOD

This question refers to inspections that are about to take place.
