HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 c408
19. Major Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in view of the fact that the naval ratings who form the crews of the field gun battery which will give performances during the forthcoming Southsea fete are not volunteers, they will be granted hurt certificates in the event of any injuries being sustained by them whilst engaged in this work; and whether, in view of the extra expense to which these ratings are put by extraordinary wear and tear of boots, blue suits, and flannels, he will authorise the same treatment as is given to Olympia tournament guns' crews?

Mr. DAVIDSON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I understand that the fête authorities have guaranteed all men taking part against undue damage to clothing, etc.

Sir B. FALLE

And to life and limb?

Mr. DAVIDSON

I think the hon. and gallant Gentleman must understand that this is really a display, and not a competition. There is very little danger.

Sir B. FALLE

If there is any accident, will these men be paid compensation?

Mr. DAVIDSON

I have no doubt.
