HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 cc433-4
68. Mr. GROVES

asked the Home Secretary whether he has personally inspected the new method of visiting boxes installed at Brixton Prison; whether he is aware that the old-fashioned perforated partition has been abolished and polished plate glass installed; and whether he will advise the installation of such conversation boxes at all prisons in the kingdom?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

As far as possible, visits to prisoners by relatives are allowed to be paid in ordinary rooms, without the intervention of screens of any kind. Where this cannot be allowed, the glass screens to which the hon. Member refers are being substituted experiment ally for the old wire screens. Their use for this purpose may be extended if they prove satisfactory.
