HC Deb 29 July 1925 vol 187 c434
69. Mr. GROVES

asked the Horns Secretary if he has any particulars showing the number of children who have been drowned or have been rescued from those parts of the Channelsea running through Stratford; and whether it is the intention of the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis to take steps to make better provision for the prevention of these dangers at this spot?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The number of children drowned in Stratford in this river during the last four years is four, of whom two were playing on a public part of the banks and two on enclosed private premises. The police patrol all parts of the banks to which the public have access, and pay special attention during the summer holidays. It is not within their power to do more than they already do.
