HC Deb 27 July 1925 vol 187 cc35-6
70. Mr. NAYLOR

asked the Minister of Transport whether it is his intention to issue an Order prohibiting the use of restricted streets for advertising purposes by sandwich-men and others, and, if so, what notice is intended to be given; and when the Order will be laid upon the Table?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT(Colonel Ashley)

It is my intention to make Regulations prohibiting the carrying and distribution of advertisements in certain streets, and I would refer the hon. Member to an answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Hackney Central on the 15th July last, of which I am sending him a copy. With regard to the last part of the question, I gave notice on the 10th July of my intention to make such Regulations, and. in accordance with the provisions of the Rules Publication Act, 1893, 40 days must elapse from that date before the Regulations are actually made. Section 10 (7) of the London Traffic Act provides that the Regulations shall be laid before both Houses of Parliament as soon as they are made. It is proposed that the Regulations shall not come into force until at least three months after the date on which the notice was given.

Mr. THURTLE

Have these Regulations any effect in restricting the employment of sandwich-men during Election times?

Colonel ASHLEY

I think they will have the effect of restricting their employment at all times.
