HC Deb 27 July 1925 vol 187 cc31-2
59. Mr. COUPER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of his appeal to the public to buy British goods, he will consider introducing a Regulation that all British-made goods must be so marked, instead of allowing foreign goods the sole privilege of that form of advertisement.

Mr. SAMUEL

There is no power under existing legislation to introduce the Regulation suggested by my hon. Friend. There is, of course, nothing to prevent British manufacturers from voluntarily marking their goods with an indication of British origin, but I do not think that a Measure to make this compulsory would meet with general support.
