HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 c602
59. Mr. PENNY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether it will be necessary to increase the staff of the Ministry of Health for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Contributory Pensions Bill; and, if so, whether it will be possible for these positions to be offered to ex-service men?

Mr. N. CHAMBERLAIN

I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In so far as additional male clerks are required, I gladly undertake to give preference to ex-service men and I have already taken preliminary steps to select a number of ex-service temporary clerks who are, or are likely in the near future to become, redundant in other public Departments.
