HC Deb 17 December 1925 vol 189 c1612
44. Mr. HANNON

asked the Home Secretary whether there are any statistics available in his Department in regard to the number of convictions in the five years 1920–24, inclusive, for breaches of the law committed by persons frequenting such restaurants as have permission to remain open all night?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I regret there are no available statistics which show the number of convictions for offences committed by persons frequenting refreshment houses, to which I presume the question refers.

Mr. HANNON

Is the right hon. Gentlemen satisfied that the supervision over these houses is quite adequate?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

As far as concerns the police of London, over whom I have control, I am satisfied. As my hon. Friend knows, the police in the country are under the control of the Watch Committees.
