HC Deb 03 August 1925 vol 187 c947
27. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any replies to his representations of the 5th, 7th, and 20th March and the 15th May to the Royal Danish Government with reference to the heavy fines inflicted on British fishermen by the Icelandic authorities; and, if so, what is the nature of the replies?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Ronald McNeill)

No reply has as yet been received. His Majesty's Minister at Copenhagen has, however, reported by telegraph that the delay in answering these representations, which the Danish Government are endeavouring to reduce, is due to difficult and uncertain means of communication in Iceland. I will inform the hon. and gallant Member when I am in a position to give him any further information.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

As the House will be rising shortly, and as this matter affects many constituents of mine very seriously, will the right hon. Gentleman communicate to me the nature of the reply when it is received— provided that there is nothing confidential in it, of course—so that I may inform my constituents about it?

Mr. McNEILL

I shall be very glad to do so.
