HC Deb 07 July 1924 vol 175 c1780
85. Mr. HEALY

asked the Postmaster-General if he can state the reason why Mr. Patrick Gormley, late postmaster of Belleek, County Fermanagh, was dismissed from his office, or if his Department had had any prior correspondence with the Government, of Northern Ireland concerning Mr. Gormley's post?

Mr. HARTSHORN

Mr. Gormley, who acted as assistant to his wife, the sub-postmistress of Belleek, disappeared from the town in June, 1922, and his where-abouts could not be traced. Subsequent inquiries made it clear that Mr. Gormley had taken an active part in the movement against the Government of Northern Ireland, and it was decided to debar both him and his wife from further employment in the Post Office.
