HC Deb 05 July 1923 vol 166 c588
7. Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Pensions whether the Regulation withdrawing the sickness grant to widows and children was approved by the Special Grants Committee; and whether the Special Grants Committee is a statutory Committee, with power to issue its own Regulations?

Major TRYON

The Regulation under which these grants were made was approved by my predecessor for a limited period, and I had recently to consider the question of its continuance. For the reasons which I have already explained, in answer to previous questions, I could not see my way to authorise a continuance of the Regulation, as was proposed by the Committee, otherwise than for the renewal of existing grants. The Special Grants Committee is a statutory body with power to make is own Regulations, but subject in all cases to my approval.
