HC Deb 01 August 1923 vol 167 c1462
42. Mr. GERALD HURST

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the dispute which has arisen between the Cardroom Amalgamation and the Trade Union Congress; and if he will state what are the causes of such dispute?

Mr. BETTERTON

I have seen references in the Press to a dispute between the parties mentioned, but I have no-other information on the matter.

Mr. RHYS DAVIES

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that there is a serious dispute in the Tory party and will he give his attention to it?

Mr. PRINGLE

Is the question of the relations between a trade union and the Trade Union Congress a matter for which the Minister of Labour is responsible?

Mr. SPEAKER

No. The hon. Member is quite right. I have been very busy, and this question escaped my notice, otherwise I should not have allowed it.

Sir W. DAVISON

Having regard to the fact that trade unions have received special privileges—[HON. MEMBERS: "Rubbish!"]—ought we not to have some further information about it?

Mr. SPEAKER

The information can be obtained from other sources, and the-Minister of Labour has no responsibility in the matter.
