HC Deb 01 August 1923 vol 167 c1464
52. Captain BENN

asked the Prime minister whether it is the intention of the Government to reduce expenditure on armaments in proportion to the armed forces which are liberated by the signature of the treaty of peace with Turkey?

The PRIME MINISTER

The strength of the forces of the Crown is kept constantly under review by the Government, and the evacuation of Constantinople will be taken into account with other factors.

Captain BENN

Does that mean that there will be a reduction in consequence of the peace with Turkey?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think there will be a reduction, but whether in consequence of the peace with Turkey I cannot yet say.
