HC Deb 01 August 1923 vol 167 cc1463-4
48. Mr. W. GREENWOOD

asked the Prime Minister if he purposes making any further statement before the rising of the House as to the consideration he has given and the action, if any, he proposes to take in reference to the Import Duty on foreign motor-car tyres, in view of the unemployment in that industry?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this matter.

Mr. GREENWOOD

Did not the date given by the late Prime Minister mean that the Safeguarding of Industries Act would be a dead letter?

Captain BENN

Does the Prime Minister not see the importance of giving a clear statement of policy on this very important issue?
