30. Colonel NEWMANasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the pension officers in several districts are recommending for total discontinuance or for drastic reduction the old age pensions of distressed gentlewomen who are ending their days in homes, and giving to the home their old age pension plus a contribution from some relative or friend: is he aware that the effect of such action means that the aged gentlewomen will have to go to the workhouse and become a charge on the ratepayers; and will he consent to receive a deputation on the subject?
§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hilton Young)If my hon. and gallant Friend will let me have particulars of the cases he has in mind, I will have inquiry made and communicate with him again.
Colonel NEWMANI have put this question to the Minister of Health, who has all the particulars. Will the hon. Gentleman ask the Minister of Health for the particulars, and save me a little trouble?
