HC Deb 24 July 1922 vol 157 c9
48. Dr. MURRAY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of articles that have been deleted from the list of duty-payable articles, under the Safeguarding of Industries Act published by the Board of Trade in September last, and the number added to the same list?

Mr. BALDWIN

Seven articles have been deleted from the list by direction of the Referee, and, in accord with what the Board understood to be the general views of the Referee, 24 items have, on the Board's responsibility, been deleted and the standard of the dutiable grade of 10 other listed chemicals has been raised. In the case of certain of the deletions the action of the Board has been challenged by persons interested. One item has been added to the list by direction of the Referee In nine other cases of complaint the action of the Board was upheld by the Referee.

Mr. KILEY

Could the right hon. Gentleman say what was the one added?

Mr. BALDWIN

I should require notice of that question.
