HC Deb 24 July 1922 vol 157 cc9-10
4. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether British ships are allowed to enter all German ports on the same terms as German ships, or if there is any preference given on dues and charges by the German Government in favour of German-owned ships; if so, can he state what the amount of such preference is; and whether dues payable on British ships are payable in German currency or whether payment is demanded in British gold, as in. Portugal to-day?

Mr. BALDWIN

British ships are allowed to enter all German ports on the same conditions as German ships, and the second part of the question therefore does not arise. As regards the third part, all dues, so far as I am aware, are payable in German currency.
