HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 cc2209-10
15. Major O'NEILL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland when it is proposed to introduce a Bill giving legislative effect to the new scale of salaries payable to resident magistrates in Ireland, as set forth in the Treasury minute dated the 12th March, 1920?

20. Sir J. BUTCHER

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether the Government are now in a position to announce their decision as to the increase of pay to resident magistrates in Ireland?

Mr. HENRY

Immediate steps are being taken to draft a Bill in order to empower the Lord Lieutenant with the concurrence of the Treasury to make Orders from time to time varying the pay and allowances of resident magistrates which are at present fixed by Statute.

Major O'NEILL

Will that Bill be introduced this Session?

Mr. HENRY

I hope so.

Sir J. BUTCHER

In view of the great urgency of this matter, will the right hon. Gentleman see that the Bill is introduced with the least possible delay?

Mr. HENRY

I will bear that in mind.
