HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 cc2210-1
16. Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he can state the number of cases in which mail-bags have been seized while being carried by rail, mail-cart, and by post men; and the total sums of money which have been stolen on those occasions?

Mr. HENRY

My right hon. Friend the Postmaster-General has asked me to answer this question. He will endeavour to furnish the hon. Member with the information for which he asks, but it may take some time to procure.

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how many convictions have taken place?

Mr. HENRY

I am not aware of any.

19. Mr. MARRIOTT

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether the Irish Government intend to take measures to guard His Majesty's mails while being conveyed by mail-cart to rural post offices?

Mr. HENRY

Yes, Sir, and they are already being taken.
